Welcome to OeCulture Online, the online version of OeCulture, the magazine of the Austrian-Canadian Council

OeCulture was first published in 1998 as a joint enterprise of the Austrian Embassy in Ottawa and the newly founded Austrian-Canadian Council. Its mission is

  • to inform readers in Canada and elsewhere about the vibrant cultural, scholarly, and scientific relationships between Canada and Austria and
  • to highlight the cultural activities of Austrian-Canadian clubs and organizations.

In addition to the contents of the Magazine, this site offers

  1. a Table of Contents of all issues, providing a quick overview of the articles published;
  2. an Author Index with an alphabetical listing of the authors who have published in the Magazine, and
  3. a Keyword Index which permits the reader to search for articles on specific persons or issues.
The online issues of the Magazine are published in PDF format, and the Adobe Acrobat Reader is therefore required to view the pages; click here to download a free copy.

Please note: Visitors with a dial-up connection should bear in mind that each issue will take several minutes to download because of the pictorial richness of each issue. Please be patient!

For this reason, in some issues - particularly in the Supplements reporting on activities in Austrian-Canadian clubs - pages are displayed one at a time. The size of each file is given in parentheses.

And, please note: If you left-click on the file name and the Adobe Acrobat Reader opens, but says "Done" after a few seconds without displaying the page, there is a compatibility problem between your browser and the version of the Reader. If you have

  • the Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or lower, or Netscape Ver. 4.5-4.77 or 6.1 you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 5.
  • the Internet Explorer Version 5.01, 5.5, 6.0, or 6.1, you will need the Acrobat Reader Version 6.

You can also right-click the link, download the file to your computer, and open it on your hard drive with your Adobe Reader. This usually works with any Reader version. Please report any problems to the Webmaster, .

Please send comments about the contents of the Magazine to its editor, , or to from the Austrian-Canadian Council. Comments on technical issues should be sent to the webmaster, .
